Following the hugely successful race night last year Mike ‘Donkey’* Dale is organising another one, this time to bring all the razzmatazz of Aintree to Hillside on day of the big race itself.

The Seconds are at home in the afternoon to Sedgley Park; the Firsts travelling to Prenton and the Thirds to Widnes.

There will be ten races each individually organised by 1s, 2s, 3s, Colts, Ladies, u15s, u14s, u13s, u12s, the Executive and an Auction Race.

Highlight of the night though will undoubtedly be the infamous “live” race under the floodlights – runners and riders to be announced nearer the time.

Prior to the event Mike will be looking for sponsors for the evening with each group taking responsibility for organising a sponsor for its race and buyers for the horses.

On the night bets can be placed to the accompaniment of John Kenny’s master-blaster sound system to add to the atmosphere.

Mike plans to run this same event the second Saturday in September (12th) for those team groups not involved this time - not that this should stop anyone from attending. Each is open to all punters and the more the merrier.

The town rejoices in Red Rum, seen in the photograph on Southport beach wearing what looks like his SRFC colours, so why not come down and savour Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum too!
