Round Trip to Win Round One
U13s win In round one of the Lancashire Waterfall Competition after aborted trip to Bury
After a two hour round trip to Bury, following a fixture mix up, preceded a late kick off at Waterloo Road, the U13s finally ran out on a full size pitch "over the wall" in the first round of the Lancashire Waterfall Competition.
Tries from Jake Lawton and Euan Thomas opened the scoring for Southport but these were matched by the Bury side so that scores were level midway through the first half. However, after shaking the extended journey off, the Southport lads started to take control of proceedings and a show and go from outside half Ed Sinclair before he was replaced by Charlie Mallon was the pick of the first half tries.
Chris Morris moved into the No. 10 position and used the boot well ensuring Southport played most of the second half in the Bury half and he capped a fine attacking display with a hat-trick of tries. Southport forwards and backs combined to keep the pressure on the opposition and to add one or two scores for the home team before the final whistle.
This was the first win for Southport and the first match for Bury this season and both teams will be looking forward to the further rounds of the Waterfall competition after an enjoyable first effort. Thanks to Glenn, the rest of the coaches and players from Bury - we appreciate your patience as you hung around waiting for us to arrive back from a close inspection of the Bury fun run!
