The best way to keep up to date with Southport Rugby Football Club

Teams announced as the only Senior game at Waterloo Road sees the 2s take on Eccles 2s tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. All support welcome.

The Firsts hit the East Lancs to take on Tyldesley away on the back of two narrow bonus-points home defeats seeking their first victory of the season. It doesn't get any easier in this League.

The Second XV plays its first home league match of the season. The two games played away at Tarleton and Bolton have resulted in 15-40 and 5-11 defeats against strong opposition, but today something has to give with Eccles also having lost their two opening games.

The team looks an exciting mix of youngsters laced with a splash of old spice. In particular great to see debutants Joe Bradford (Edge Hill), Jack Boyce (Waterloo) and Chris Cunningham (Crosby St Marys) in the line-up, likewise Colt Jake Meleady-Hughes. In particular the new second-row partnership of Boyce (Brendan’s nephew) and Cameron Williams promises to put pressure on the First XV incumbents, whilst Bradford vice-captain of the University First XV along with his captain James Wright (playing for the Firsts) hopefully symbolises the start of a long and fruitful relationship between students, the institution and the Club with others to follow.

An interesting ‘career move’ sees Ryan Bailey moving position from centre to back row but with the likes of the proven Chris Tees, James Rodd, Billy Nichol, Jamie Church, Calum Monaghan, Ian Smith et al this team promises much under the astute captaincy of Andy Boland.

Welcome to all the Eccles contingent, the referee and to you all and here’s to a great game.

The Thirds are on duty taking the Northern Line Express to play Merseyside Police down by the river in south Liverpool. Buoyed by a terrific win against New Brighton last week Brian Henry and his merry men will be looking to establish themselves as top table contenders. A big welcome to debutants Andy Mairs and Dave Keeling.

The Ladies who were just squeezed out at Birkenhead Park last Sunday have no game on Sunday but the Colts look to make it three in a row at Littleborough following successive victories against Crewe & Nantwich then Penrith.

Changing sports, the rugby club takes on Southport Hockey Club at S&B at 4pm Sunday for the Annual Havard/McQuaid T20 Trophy. With the series all square at 2-2 a hard fought battle is anticipated.

Off the pitch a massive thank you to Jay Calvert and his workforce from the Forshaw Group and to the kids and parents from the u14s for the extraordinary work they undertook at Waterloo Road last weekend. Take it in, the place looks a million dollars!
