A big Southport welcome to all our visiting clubs this weekend from all over England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Everyone welcome to come on down!

We have over 85 teams from 26 clubs coming this year for what will be a fantastic Bank Holiday festival of mini and junior rugby on Saturday and Sunday.

With Builth Wells having played Southport Colts on Friday night clubs from all over the British Isles feature at Waterloo Road this weekend giving the festival a real Lions flavour.

It also has an 1872 feel to it too, the year that Southport RFC was formed. Remarkably four of the ten surviving clubs founded that year are represented; Bromsgrove (u14s), Durham City (u15s) Southport (u14 &15s) and Yarnbury & Moortown (u15s). This follows a firth, Percy Park, having played Southport u15s at Waterloo Road on 19th April.*

The list of clubs represented this weekend is impressive:

The Guinness Bar will be guzzling and the Fizz Tent fizzing; the new Southport RFC kit is available to buy in the shop for the first time so no excuse not to mosey on down....

We hope everyone has a great time and enjoys the wonderful facilities that the club and the town has to offer. Please respect our neighbours too to whom the club expresses its appreciation and thanks.

* For the record the 14 surviving Rugby Union clubs founded in 1872 are: Bolton, Bromsgrove, Cambridge University, Clifton, Durham City, Exeter, Lutterworth, Painswick, Penryn, Percy Park, Southport, Weymouth, Wiveliscombe, Yarnbury
