To be fair it's a tad tenuous but it is only right to proffer our admiration for Jonny following his retirement from the playing field. And what a way to go! Immaculate European and French title winning performances to add to his World Cup winning drop goal in 2003! Surely only Shane Cook can better this, and he's at the top table with Chairman Andrew Carney today!
But that's not the link...
Eagle-eyed SRFC Bar Chairman Pierre le Roi recently spotted the attached article in a local English-language news paper whilst enjoying one of his regular sojourns in the South of France. It features Jonny visiting the grave of the founder of the game William Webb Ellis.
The link? Ellis died in 1872 the year Southport Rugby Club was formed. The King was dead, but SRFC (and Pete) have long lived since. Check out http://www.southportrfc.com/a/club-trivia-25662.html?page=3
As Shane is oft heard to say "if you know your history".
Have a great day at HQ and fingers crossed you'll be bringing us home another gong and best wishes from all at SRFC to Jonny on his retirement.
