Nigel started his playing career with Weston-Super-Mare and after three seasons joined Bath RFC in 1983. Nigel competed for 16 years with the Bath club where he won 10 National Cups, 6 league titles and in 1998 became the first English winners of the European Cup. In 1984 aged 20, Nigel won the first of his 20 caps for England in an international career that spanned over 13 years. During that time Nigel played in several overseas tours and in two World Cup tournaments reaching the final in 1991 only to lose against Australia. In 1994 Nigel won the England Rugby “Player of the Year” award and was voted one of the top five most influential international players in the world.

The pinnacle of his international rugby career came in 1997 when Nigel toured South Africa with the British and Irish Lions
captaining the team on two occasions. The British and Irish Lions won the series 2 - 1.

Following retirement from playing in 1999, Nigel embarked on a coaching career that has seen him coach across many different environments from Premiership Rugby to England International teams. Nigel has become an experienced presenter and keynote speaker, and as well as British Swimming he has worked as a coach and mentor to coaches and leaders of winter Olympic and summer Olympic sports, Premier League Football, rugby union and is an Associate at Ashridge House Business School.

In 2009 Nigel was invited by UK Sport to work as part of the delivery team for the Elite Coach Apprentice Programme (ECAP). The team has the responsibility of writing and delivering a coach education programme to the next group of aspiring Olympic coaches. In 2011 Nigel was invited by UK Sport to join the steering group for the Elite Coach programme that was subsequently launched after the Olympics in November 2012 at the World Class Coaching Conference.©

He is joined at the top table by comedian Mike Farrell. Hailing from Yorkshire Mike rates among the best after dinner comedians on the circuit. Highly regarded and respected within the business he is a true professional at all times. There are no props, no gimmicks, just excellent material and the professionalism to put it across.

He is an ideal comedian for sporting dinners where he has worked successfully alongside all the top speakers and the famous names, which has meant he has become a personal favourite for many of them.
