Southport First Team finished the year on the crest of an unbeaten run of three games…..

.....mind you for various reasons the last three games against Bowdon (their coach broke down), Manchester Medics (frozen pitch) and on last weekend at Widnes (pitch waterlogged) were all postponed! Indeed Saturday was called off just before kick-off leaving a backlog that has to be fitted into an already busy calendar for the second half of the season. With the team now perilously close to the bottom of the table it is going to be all hands to the pump.

The Second Team, also struggling in their league, did their chances of survival a world of good with a resounding 41-3 victory at home to Bolton 2s. Try scorers were James Cook, Tom Smallwood x2, Jordan Caldwell, Mike Blinston with 5 conversations and a penalty from the evergreen Dave Atherton.

The Thirds meanwhile had their league fixture at New Brighton 3s postponed but with ‘Super Gnome’ Jason Keating et al pulling out the stops managed to arrange a friendly at Moore going down to a high scoring defeat as captured in the images taken by Kay Atkinson

With no games this weekend or next it's time to deck the halls and return refreshed for the fray in the New Year on Saturday 6th January with the Firsts and Thirds at home to Tyldesley and Merseyside Police respectively, and the Seconds away at Eccles 2. The Colts entertain Warrington on the Sunday.
