Nick Holden and Mark Pennifold, Head Coach and Manager respectively of the u12s, organised the annual tour to the Windermere IMS Rugby Festival.
This was no mean feat when you consider the following!
- The party comprised 284 people including 112 players and 172 coaches, parents, siblings and grandparents.
- There were six age groups; u9, 10, 11 & 12's as usual plus for the first time the u7 and 8's.
- Twelve teams were entered in the tournament across all the age groups to maximise everyone's game time
All the players and coaches were resplendent in this year’s specially commissioned '140 Southport Olympic' tour shirts reflecting the original blue, white and red colours of the club as it was once called for almost thirty years before, almost a hundred years to the day on Monday, the Olympic name was dropped (see Event 22nd April)
Great effort was put into raising the money for the shirts by the players and parents themselves including a social event at the Ramada Hotel in Southport and bag-packing in Morrison's.
Such is the popularity of the event that this year the games were played away from Windermere at Kendal Rugby Club. For further details on the tournament click on http://www.internationalminirugby.com/ and follow the the Windermere/Kendal tabs.
Hopefully there was good weather and much merriment to match the pots, tour debutants u8s matching their achievement at Vale of Lune last Sunday.
Well in Nick and Mark and on behalf of the club and the tour party a big thank you for your sterling efforts. We look forward to hearing all about it on your return although it is perfectly understood that what goes on tour….
