Four fabulous days of Southport flower show ! 80, 000 visitors - 4 days for our club to showcase our brilliant members, players and volunteers !

Dear members, players, parents and hangers on !

We are thrilled that the club has been invited to showcase a stand @ Southport Flower show this year 2014 ! - We are Stand E6 !

Thursday 14th right through to Sunday 17th August !

A real honour ! Our club played at Victoria Park for many years (History to follow from Graham Ellis - see below!)
Suffice to say - the garden of the year is probably on the site of a good old ruck and maul from the past !

Volunteers and ideas needed !

Our club - Southport RFC will showcase over the 4 days just how brilliant we are - by talking to people, telling them how we have improved community cohesion through rugby, our brilliant volunteers who make it happen & how we intend to play at senior level this year !

Juniors and minis are the lifeblood of the club for our future - we hope to grow membership to 400 this year !

We need helpers for all 4 days !

We need sponsors for wristbands, pencils, badges, pens, leaflets - or anything else !

Our aim is to raise the profile of our wonderful club to new heights and inspire children, adults and people of all ages to play, watch, and get involved in rugby at all ages in Southport - regardless of ability or anything else !

To do that we need you as members to think of how we can promote our club both to local visitors to the flower show - but also to those from the North West and beyond !

This is a unique opportunity to sell ourselves and what we do !

We will be asking every visitor to 'like' us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and sign up for emails !

We always look for ethical sponsorship and can offer great packages for supporters at Bronze, Silver and Gold !

We need;

- volunteers to help staff the stall for the 4 days - can you give an hour, an afternoon, a day or more ?

- sponsors of Southport RFC wristbands, pens, badges ( whatever - (free giveaway - sponsors name also - 80k visitors)

- Prize giveaways - we already have Angus M giving a photoshoot worth £1500, a barrel of Ruck and Maul, A signed Wigan Warriors shirt - what can you give ?

We recognise you are all generous to the club - but you can reach 80k people this year in 4 days ? - and next (we have been invited back !)

The club wants to nurture and strengthen our Relationship ship with the flower show !

We would love you to come along anyway to the show (kids go free ) and wear your Southport RFC shirts with pride !

We are going to try to take a picture of all the 1st team, and any other supporters/players/VIPs at our stand at 12 noon on the Saturday ! - please try to make it the best picture of the show !

This will reinforce our message of supporting community events and our true roots and club spirit !

I would be grateful of any support/time you can give to this new venture - please contact me via

Graham Ellis adds...

There is history between SRFC and Victoria Park, in the nicest possible way! Definitely a case of 'Back to the Future'

Did you know that the Flower Show is held on the ground that SRFC played before moving to Waterloo Road in in 1926?

In those days the club played in red, black and amber hoops; at this years show the club will be introducing the new Nationwide Produce Ltd sponsored shirt ...... red, black and amber hoops! It looks fantastic!

Most poignantly at this moment in time Victoria Park was the home of the club when World War One broke out one hundred years ago, the team 1913-14 team photograph clearly showing the hooped shirts worn at that time.
