Southport RFC is saddened to hear of the recent death of former player Terry Maloney, a stalwart of the club in the 'centenary' era

David James the First XV captain in 1972 has been in touch to confirm that Terry died 2 weeks ago. "Everyone who knew him will be sorry to hear of his passing. He was one of life's great characters and on his day a more than useful prop forward."

Over the years Terry attended First XV matches in the company of his rugby chums such as 'Jamesy', Mike Halsall, Jeff Windle, Bryan Roberts, Alan Havard et al and it is reassuring to think that forty-odd years on he was still deriving pleasure from rolling up to Waterloo Road on a Saturday afternoon. Hopefully he will have been glowing with pride in what the club has achieved in recent years.

Terry will be fondly remembered by many and the club sends its sincere condolences to his family and friends. Rugby life goes on though but regrettably the flag pole is damaged and out of action. Therefore the flag cannot be flown at half mast as a mark of respect at the Third XV game v Ruskin Park on Saturday or the Colts v Liverpool Collegiate on Sunday, but Terry will be in our thoughts.

Old props never pass away, they just never pass! God bless.
