O Try – (27 – 19) – Despite some excellent defending from the whole Southport Team that forced a series of Ormskirk knock-ons, we lost 4 scrums against our put in then Ormskirk crashed it through the middle from about 5m.

Referee had an excellent game.

Nathan had a good game at centre and Toots put them in striking distance of the line with a couple of very good, strong carries. Joe V also made a couple of very good carries picking up loose balls and giving Ormskirk time to reorganise.

Plenty of positives – the boy’s stopped Ormskirk mauling pretty much every time and held up a couple of tries. Harry and George combined really well coming into the line. Angus showed good judgement in picking out the space and using the kick to turn defence into attack – with great support from Tom and Daniel. The forwards worked really well when there was a controlling & vocal mind (Lewis) and all showed real determination (Alex’s face was a picture when he was carrying the ball!). Jim’s distribution was good for most of the match.

Real positives in spirit, excellent behaviour (before during and after the game) and team’s ability to identify where they needed to improve. Also the way the new players fitted in and how all the guy’s worked on their drills before the game – we did see Thursday’s learning points being put into use, particularly in the first half..

It was a hard game as most of the Ormskirk players were big units, difficult to stop, and half way through the second half the storm came in and we were playing against it.

Man of The Match – it would be very difficult to decide but if I had to nominate it would be George – I wouldn’t even want to guess at how many tackles he made.

Champagne Moment – Daniel Waddell felling the biggest player on the pitch (who was really motoring!) with a try saving tap-tackle.
