Great Day at Sefton
A solid away day for the Devils - 4 games of fun filled Rugby on a wet and windy morning.....

Sefton RUFC 16/ Southport RFC 19
Many thanks to Sefton for their kind hospitality. It was a bit cold, it was a bit wet and Coach Dave was a bit late but a great time was had by all. Thanks goes to everyone for a good turn out from both teams.
Game 1: Sefton 4/ Southport 5
A super start to the triple header this morning witnessed Taylor McNulty get the scoring started for the Devils. Jack Hednry followed up with what has become a typical barnstorming run to get the second try for Southport, set up by Jack Rogan. Thomas and James Pilkington entertained the supporters with long legged, strong running through the centres. Dillon Smith added a score in the left hand corner. Note, reader, that the left hand corner took quite a peppering from our guys this morning. As demonstrated by George Harvey who warmed up for waltzing Matilda over Easter by waltzing over the white wash twice and sealing the win for the Devils.
Game 2: Sefton 7/ Southport 7
Charlie Hignett had a super game and, although not on the score sheet, was the top rated tackler for Southport. Ethan Owen started at fullback and smashed through the line three times, steaming in for a hat trick having been set up for his third score by Jack Wilcox who played a solid game on debut. Hiding under a woolly hat there was reason to believe that Swampy had registered for the Devils but the look of the fourth try had a touch of Lewis Fusco about it as he romped through midfield. Archie Morris showed a burst of pace down the left wing, bursting through the Sefton defence and setting up the first of three for our pocket rocket Joseph Paxton. Two of Joseph's scores were to the left hand corner. The pick of the bunch was an amazing length of the pitch dart, tee'd up by a pass from Lewis Parker, that broke Sefton hearts to steal a late draw.
Game 3: Sefton 3/ Southport 2
A low scoring game showcased hard defence, rather than a free scoring try festival. Hard tackling from the likes of Elliott Highdale and Peter Thompson contained the Sefton runners. Jess Pagan ran in a lovely score to the left hand corner, much to the delight of an extremely vocal (and competitive) Mummy (Jo who wasn't at the bar).....! Taylor McNulty then followed Jess to the same well trodden corner, crossing the whitewash to level the day.
Game 4 Combined 2/ Southport 5
A final game of the day saw the "big guns" going at each other. Messers Owen, Smith and Harvey joined the 3 high achieving Sefton players, to play the remaining Southport team. Fantastic rugby prevailed. Charlie Hignett added to his 5 Try's against Ormskirk the day before to score a brace, with Joe Paxton completing his quality weekend's try haul with a further 2 Try's. Not to be outdone Lewis Fusco also scored to give something for his days efforts. Not to be outdone Dillon Smith and Ethan Owen scored for the ba ba's to end a fantastic days rugby. This game showed a level of Rugby that was simply enthralling, great finish to a great day. Thanks to Steve and the Sefton team for such a fun day.
A well deserved star of the week award goes to Ethan Owen. Tour fines go to Coach Dave for general tardy attendance and to the good folk who will be tucking in our two hat trick heroes this evening. The Birkdale Bugle will return next week....
