U9s MATCH REPORT V SEFTON

All Saints no sinners as both teams bare their souls to share the spoils! Dave Mc. reports on 200 points and all.

Sefton made the trip in the early fog to Waterloo Road so parents could disappear and watch the round balled game played by the team in blue !

On to the game in hand - Captains today were Charlotte, Matty and Lewis - we are really trying to empower all the children in leadership and decision making and all 3 led by example today ! Superb !

We worked in training on keeping our defensive line and field position. Clearly this approached worked as all our sides today responded to "drift " and legs !

First match

Advantage to Sefton. Some lightning runs by the " speed machine " gave Sefton the advantage in the first 5 minutes - but some great tackles from Charlotte and Kit meant that the Southport team needed time to get into their stride - some bullocks get runs from Henry Mc resulted in a try after great defence from Sefton. Both teams forgot that legs are the target ! But soon fixed with some coaching from both sides ! Defensive lines fixed made for a close finish - both sides tackling well and trying to pass out of the tackle.

2nd game

Sefton off to a lively start again scoring and early try but the training session beforehand started reaping rewards as the Southport defence was much more solid. Superb leadership both tackling and defence by Lewis - supported by outstanding running from Luc who was nearly unplayable at times ! Great interplay from the two Sefton girls resulted in a brilliant try through the middle as the Southport defence went to sleep. Henry B then showed he is a natural at the game - quick leg speed and unstoppable through the middle.

Try for try each team - a great match as both tested defence in pulsating runs - Callum W a real natural in his 2nd week of rugby !
Capped by an outstanding try saving tackle from newcomer Dominic - sublime.

Third match

Sefton indefatigable as Southport rolled out another fresh team to meet them. Arran and James H outstanding in defence - James was an exemplar to all our players today as he tackled low - legs every time - no fuss no missed tackle until a stray boot accidentally caught him on the side of the head late on. James P showed super determination today tackling and passing out of the tackle like a pro setting up a try and saving one.

Last match - 25 minutes !

All teams substituted throughout - fantastic rugby !
Fantastic try's from Nik and Harry K, supported by Henry Mc and some incredible strength by Arran put Sefton on the back foot for the first time really. But come back that did scoring a brace through the "speed machine". Great passing sequence from Luc to Henry to Arran and Henry in the corner was the highlight !

MJ - head coach of Sefton really happy with both teams - tackling passing and attack all tested - smiling faces and happy cheering parents evident !

I reckon we saw at least 40 tries - 200 points and honours just about even !

Core values = Happy coaches ! Looking forward to the return !
