Southport RFC U11's V Ormskirk RFC U11's
A hard fought fixture results in a victory for Southport U11's
Ormskirk RFC U11’s 15 v Southport RFC U11’s 80
15th November 2015 County Rd Ormskirk.
Southport U11’s travelled to Ormskirk with a squad of 10 players leaving the remainder of the age group being treated to some specialist offensive training at Waterloo rd.
Southport fielded a strong squad of Benjamin, Charles, Dylan, Finbarr, James, Max, Molly, Nicholas, Rory and Toby.
The match was played with 8 a side to allow for substitutions during the 20 minutes each way. Following a minutes silence to mark the tragic events in Paris the match got underway at 11am. Immediately the hard work put in on the training ground began to show with Southport Rucking and counter rucking to devastating effect. The squad displayed excellent communication and handling skills with sublime offloads and punishing direct running forcing holes in the Ormskirk defensive line which ultimately led to tries being scored by every member of the squad, many with their first try for the club.
As the second half got under way the heavens opened up and for the first time this season we had to cope with the wind and rain making handling more difficult. This, however, did not seem to daunt either team with Ormskirk fighting back to score 3 superbly worked tries. Southport continued to run straight and work the ball through the hands to create space out wide which resulted in yet more tries. By the time the final whistle was blown both squads were exhausted having given maximum effort for 40 minutes of scintillating rugby. Coaches and parents alike commented on the determination of both squads, and the fact that as I looked around at the very wet players walking of the pitch I saw big grins on virtually all faces speaks volumes for their attitudes.
Thanks to Ormskirk for hosting a great morning of rugby and to all parents for bringing the players and standing around in the rain.
