GOODBYE THOMAS THE TANK, HELLO JIMMY CHOO CHOO!

On a day for the veterans an extraordinary Ashtonique effort from prop Jimmy Thomas, and tries from John Roberts & Andy Monks seal much deserved big W

Mike Goodwin is our man on duty 'over the wall'

James Dorans men finally hit the right note on a day when club remembered legends with a minute silence and a rendition of the last post.

Southport started strong looking to get back to winning ways and a quick tap penalty from scrum half Andy Boland put fly half John Roberts into space and after a bit of ducking and weaving in between the oncoming defence he grounded the ball under the posts to give the home side a much needed 7-0 lead. Southports pack dominated set pieces not losing a single scrum the lineout was working well with doran winning his ball and stealing theirs and the penalties started to rack up, knowing the importance of building a lead as quick as possible it was left to full back Mike Goodwin to kick two penalty attempts to take Southport into a 13-0 lead at half time.

The second half started as quick as the first half for Southport and a very nice move from the forwards saw a punch ball snapped back inside to Tom 'TJ' Johnson to come steamrolling through to ground the ball, the conversion skimming the wrong side of the post, 18-0. Another penalty took the score to 21-0 before Sefton ran in there only score of the game, 18-7.

Then came the try of the season, several strong phases by Southport and plenty of quick ball left a big overlap which was exploited superbly and after the ball went through the hands the ball found its way to “winger” Jimmy Thomas who ran 30m and swallow dived for Southports 3rd try, TJ missed with the conversion out on the touchline, 26-7,

Southport had time for one more try and some more powerful rucking saw the ageless Andy Monks dive over from 5m out. A drop goal conversion from Man Of The Match TJ sealed a very well deserved and a much needed win.

Thank you to the Sefton lads for their exemplary contribution to the pre-match tribute.
