LADIES OUT GUNNED

With only the result table and their league positioning to go off, Southport went with an open mind and a determined attitude.
The first half was a pretty close call with Sefton scoring first and both teams going goal for goal. Seftons backs proved problematic with strong running and good hands creating an opening try from one of their centres. Southport responded with some powerful scrummaging and rucking. A strong run from captain Lauren McCluskey saw her power over the line to level the scores. Sefton responded with a second try to put Southport on the back foot.

With a lot of the game played in the centre of the pitch, and only 7 points in it, it was anyones game when another break away from the back of the scrum from McCluskey saw her go over for her 2nd try. The away side made numerous turnovers at the rucks but didnt capitalise on these and Sefton managed to put on another14 points in the last 15 minutes of the game.

The final score of 31-12 really didnt reflect the way Southport played and although there are still many areas that they need to tighten up on there were many positives to be taken from this game in preparation for the return home fixture.

There were a few candidates for Girl of the Game, but it was given to Katie Hussey for her kicking and the control she took in the fly-half position.
