Southport Rugby Football Club would like to pay tribute to Chris Drescher, who, after more than two decades at Waterloo Road, is moving to Australia with his wife Rebecca, daughter Mia and son Austin.
Throughout his time at Southport, Chris has been a hugely popular figure with teammates, supporters and everyone connected with the club.
Blessed with exceptional pace, he was always one of the fastest players on the pitch. However, Chris was not simply a scorer of a great number of tries; he was a scorer of truly unforgettable tries.
Whenever the ball found its way into his hands, there was an immediate sense that something special could happen. Whether breaking from deep inside his own half, finishing an opportunity out wide or racing clear of the defence, Chris had the ability to score from almost anywhere on the pitch.
His pace, skill and attacking instinct brought excitement to those playing alongside him and to generations of supporters watching from the touchline.
Beyond the hundreds of tries and countless memorable moments, it is Chris’s dedication, loyalty and commitment to Southport RFC that will leave the greatest impression.
Across more than 20 years, he proudly represented all three of the club’s senior teams, always giving everything for the shirt and demonstrating the values that make Southport Rugby Club so special.
Chris will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of playing alongside him, as well as by all those who enjoyed watching him play during his many years at the club.
Chris, thank you for everything you have given to Southport Rugby Football Club.
We wish you, Rebecca, Mia and Austin every happiness and success as you begin your new life together in Australia.
There will always be a place for you and your family at Waterloo Road.
