Miles Johnson coach of the under15s knew Dave well.
"He was a great supporter of our club and the under15s and I am devastated at the loss of such a lovely man.
"Dave was a keen supporter of Southport Rugby Club and come rain or shine spent his Sunday mornings watching his son and his team mates play for the club.
"An excellent player himself, in his youth Dave represented Fylde 1st XV and his input and enthusiasm for the game and Southport RFC will be sorely missed.
"Dave gave constant support and positive encouragement to all the players in the under15s and his enthusiasm was an example to the players and parents alike."
The club was well represented but Chairman Steve Olive was unfortunately unable to attend as he was en route from the Far East on business he asked that his condolences be passed on.
The service included tributes from family, friends and work colleagues including some lovely anecdotes (including his propensity to fall asleep anywhere!) which all showed how well thought of and loved Dave was and how much he loved the game and the club, underlining what a huge loss he is.
Following a private committal at Southport Crematorium everyone was welcome at S&B Sports Club to raise a glass, have a bite to eat and celebrate Dave's life .
It goes without saying that the thoughts of the club have been with Helen and Callum since the news broke, and will continue to be so.
Rest in peace Dave and thank you for your contribution in helping to make the under15s, the club and the game what it is now.
