A short of numbers Southport RFC Junior Colts travelled to Wirral knowing a win would all but see them crowned League D Winners. The first half was an arm wrestle in the forwards, with excellent work from Harry Boardman, Jack Cook and Jack Green at the breakdown. Southport were a bit sloppy with the ball in the backs and failed to make real progress. Our defence was op point, with big hits from Dan Middlehurst, Ivan Rullan and Louie Southwood holding Wirral at bay. However, it was Wirral who scored first for a half time lead of 5-0.

An injury to our 10 saw more reshuffling and Tom Lawson on the wing !! Some testing box kicks from Michael Lawton and Ollie McKeown gained good territory for The Port. A try was just around the corner and Ollie McKeown scorched between to defenders to score under the posts, but missed the conversion !!

Time was ticking on with Southport knocking on the door but not quite bursting through it. However, we 1 minute left and quick tap penalty from number 9 Michael and 2 excellent carries in the forwards, Southport scored the match winning try curiosity of Jack Green. The conversion missed but no time to restart, Southport won the game and remain undeafted in the league.
