A wet and wild Sunday 19th November

Soggy & Muddy & Challenging & Cold & Wet – against – Spirit & Brilliant & Dominated & Fantastic

All words to use for the same day of rugby for our Mini & Juniors playing in tough conditions, from the Under 7s to Under 16s.

A very soggy U7’s game this morning at home against a very good Sale team. The boys did really well in the conditions. As you can see the rain didn’t dampen their spirits! Really good defensively working as a team and some great passing in wet conditions.

Brilliant display from the under 8s away at Sale this morning, the kids suddenly decided today was the day they would try throwing 20 metre passes in the most slippery conditions of the season ? none stop defensive pressure and brilliant support play in attack meant all the kids were absolutely shattered by the end ?

Great performance from the under 10s in challenging conditions. As always Sale we're great hosts and the standard of rugby from both sides was awesome.

Under 11s dominated Sale at home today. They weren’t put off by Johnny Leota leading out a Sale side which also consisted of an England international’s daughter too. They played in tough conditions and took an 18-3 win. The game was played with total respect and sportsmanship. ❤️??

Bad day at the office for the U12s. Seems that have forgotten how to tackle and to go forward. Bad conditions did effect them. Back to the drawing board on Tuesday!

Fantastic game for the u14s a slow start allowed sale to race to 19-0 lead after just 15 minutes, the team refocused and started a relentless pick a drive tactic power over for 2 try's From Harry and Ethan to bring it back to 19-12 to Sale at half time. a break away try from Sale pushed it out further but try's from Ethan, Oli and then in the final minute on our own 22 Ethan broke and offloaded to Debutant Benji who ran the remaining 40 meter for the winning score sale 26 Southport 29 and some very happy, very wet & muddy teenagers and parents. Hats off to Sale for great supporters and coaches and outstanding support from their physio team helping Albert after leaving the pitch with concussion.

Great numbers at training for the U15's in those conditions. High intensity fitness work followed by some handling and tackling drills. Finished off with forwards vs backs match. Forwards took the honours this time.

Hard fought game for u16's in very wet conditions. Southport started well and built an early lead of 0-14 but Trafford fought back with 2 or 3 individual breaks bringing the score back to 12-14. Second half Trafford applied more pressure on our scrum and line outs but we defended well, clearing off our line 2 or 3 times. Southport then picked up 2 penalties and one further try. Round 4 JRC final score 12-25.

There’s clearly plenty of energy, talent, and commitment to go round. Southport is very proud to have young players, and coaches, and parents who showed the spirit of rugby and of our community club on a wet and wild Sunday. Well done to everyone who turned out today. #rugby #sport #weekend #juniorrugby #southport
