Southport RFC would like to place on record its sincere thanks and appreciation to Sue Astwood, who is set to step down from her role as the club’s long-serving Bar & Events Manager after 17 years of dedicated service.

Throughout her time in the role, Sue has been far more than a Bar & Events Manager. She has been the welcoming face of Southport RFC, playing a central role in everything from match days and club events to weddings, private functions and major fundraising occasions. Her warmth, organisation and commitment have helped make the clubhouse such an important part of club life.

Sue has also played a significant role in supporting and leading fundraising events on behalf of Southport RFC. These include the 24-hour rugby match, which raised over £30,000 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, The Ellis Expedition, which raised over £35,000 for Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals Charity, and most recently the Southport RFC Annual Colour Run in support of Elsie’s Story.

Sue still has a busy programme of events ahead of her and is set to serve her final pint at the Southport RFC Annual Colour Run on Saturday 6th June 2026.

Sue will retire alongside her husband, Mark, who is also stepping away from the Board of Directors after many years of outstanding service as Director of Works. Mark has been instrumental in the development of the clubhouse and wider club grounds, overseeing two clubhouse extensions and helping drive forward major improvements across the site.

Together, Sue and Mark have shown incredible dedication to Southport RFC. Their commitment, hard work and loyalty have been second to none, and they have both played an important part in the club’s progress and success over many years.

Everyone at Southport RFC would like to thank Sue and Mark for everything they have given to the club. We wish them both the very best for their retirement and for all of their future adventures.
